Petri Sakari is a Finnish composer known for his contemporary classical music, often characterized by spectralist techniques, exploring timbre and harmonic complexity through meticulous orchestration. His compositions frequently draw inspiration from natural phenomena and incorporate extended instrumental techniques. Sakari’s work avoids traditional narrative structures, instead focusing on sonic textures and evolving soundscapes. He has received commissions from prominent orchestras and ensembles internationally, establishing himself as a significant voice in modern composition.

Harpa Concert Hall, located in Reykjavik, Iceland, opened in 2011 and serves as the city’s premier performance venue. Its design, by Henning Larsen Architects and Batteríið Architects, is heavily influenced by Iceland’s basalt columns and the Northern Lights – *Norðurljós* being the Icelandic name for Aurora Borealis. The hall's glass facade is constructed from geometrically shaped glass panels that create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow.

Norðurljós specifically refers to the smaller hall within Harpa, known for its intimate atmosphere and excellent acoustics. It's designed to accommodate a range of performances including chamber music, recitals, and smaller orchestral works.
