Tan Dun is a contemporary composer recognized for his highly original music that fuses Western orchestral traditions with elements of traditional Chinese music and culture, often incorporating unconventional instrumentation and multimedia elements. His work frequently explores themes of nature, ritual, and spirituality. He is known for scores to films like *Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon* and *Hero*, as well as operatic works and concertos.
Eldborg – Main Hall is the largest hall within Harpa Concert Hall, opened in 2011. Its design is notable for its striking glass facade inspired by Icelandic basalt columns and the Northern Lights. The hall’s acoustics were designed by Artec Consultants Inc., aiming for both clarity and warmth suitable for a wide range of performances including orchestral concerts, choral works, and opera. The hall accommodates 1,805 seated audience members and features a retractable stage floor allowing for flexible configurations. The interior utilizes wood sourced from Icelandic birch forests to enhance the acoustic properties and reflect local materials.
