Elisabeth Leonskaja, a renowned Russian-born Icelandic pianist, will perform at Harpa Concert Hall’s Norðurljós hall on April 30, 2027. Leonskaja is celebrated for her deeply insightful and technically assured interpretations of classical repertoire, particularly the works of Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms. Her playing is often described as possessing both intellectual rigor and emotional depth, marked by a clarity of articulation and a refusal to indulge in superficial display. She frequently champions lesser-known works alongside established masterpieces.
Harpa Concert Hall, opened in 2011 in Reykjavik, Iceland, is a landmark building designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Batteríið Architects. Norðurljós (“Northern Lights”) is Harpa’s smaller concert hall, seating approximately 500 people. Its design incorporates elements inspired by Iceland's basalt columns and the aurora borealis; the glass façade is composed of geometrically shaped glass panels that reflect light and create a dynamic visual effect. The hall’s acoustics are specifically engineered for chamber music and solo recitals, prioritizing intimacy and clarity.
