Daníel Bjarnason is an Icelandic composer and conductor known for works often described as neo-romantic, blending tonal landscapes with contemporary textures. His compositions frequently feature a lyrical quality alongside complex harmonic structures and explore themes relating to nature and the Icelandic environment. He frequently collaborates with orchestras internationally and is recognized for his evocative orchestral writing.
The concert will take place within Eldborg, the main hall of Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik. Eldborg is renowned for its acoustics, specifically designed by Artec Consultants Inc., and its striking architectural features. Opened in 2011, Harpa was a key project in Iceland’s recovery following the 2008 financial crisis, intended as a cultural landmark and a symbol of renewal. The hall's design incorporates a distinctive glass façade inspired by basalt columns – a common geological formation in Iceland – and aims to maximize natural light while providing exceptional sound quality.
Eldborg has a seating capacity of approximately 1,800 and hosts a diverse range of performances including orchestral concerts, opera, ballet, conferences, and large-scale events. Its stage is adaptable to accommodate various ensemble sizes and production requirements.
