Joep Beving is a Dutch composer and pianist known for his minimalist and emotionally resonant neoclassical compositions. His music often features solo piano pieces, characterized by simple, repeating motifs, atmospheric textures, and a focus on melody and mood. Beving gained prominence through self-released recordings on platforms like YouTube and Spotify, bypassing traditional record label routes, and has since released several acclaimed albums including *Solipsism* and *Henosis*.
Fríkirkjan í Reykjavík, or the Free Icelandic Church, holds a unique position in Iceland’s religious landscape. Founded in 1839 by Skúli Magnússon, it was the first independent church established in Iceland after the country gained independence from Denmark in 1844. Historically, it represented a break from the state church and advocated for religious freedom. The church building itself, located on Austurstræti in central Reykjavík, is notable for its relatively simple architectural style compared to other Icelandic churches; it was originally constructed as a warehouse before being converted into a place of worship. Today, Fríkirkjan continues as an independent Lutheran congregation and also functions as a popular venue for concerts due to its intimate atmosphere and excellent acoustics.
