Experience Edward Gardner live on October 9th
Edward Gardner is a British conductor renowned for his interpretations of British composers, particularly those of the 20th and 21st centuries like Elgar, Britten, and Tippett. His conducting style is often described as possessing clarity, dramatic intensity, and a sensitivity to orchestral colour. He frequently champions contemporary works alongside established repertoire, demonstrating a commitment to expanding the classical music landscape.
The concert will take place within Eldborg, the main hall of Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik. Eldborg is architecturally striking, designed in collaboration with Henning Larsen and Batteríið Architects. Its design draws inspiration from Iceland’s basalt columns and the Northern Lights. The hall’s acoustics were carefully engineered by Artec Consultants Inc., aiming for both volume and intimacy; adjustable acoustic elements allow for adaptation to different ensemble sizes and musical genres.
Harpa itself opened in 2011, becoming a landmark building and a significant cultural centre for Iceland. It was constructed as part of the city's bid to revitalize its downtown area and has since hosted a wide range of performances including classical music concerts, opera, ballet, conferences and various cultural events.
