Barbara Hannigan, a Canadian soprano and conductor renowned for her intensely expressive performances and adventurous repertoire choices, will perform at Harpa Concert Hall’s Norðurljós hall in Reykjavik, Iceland on February 13, 2027. Hannigan’s musical style is characterized by a commitment to contemporary music alongside interpretations of standard repertoire, often noted for their dramatic nuance and vocal agility. She frequently collaborates with leading orchestras and composers worldwide, and is also an increasingly recognized conductor.
Harpa Concert Hall, opened in 2011, is a landmark building in Reykjavik designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Batteríið Architects. Its glass façade is inspired by the basalt columns found throughout Iceland's natural landscape and the Northern Lights – *Norðurljós* being the Icelandic name for Aurora Borealis. The Norðurljós hall specifically is Harpa’s smaller recital hall, known for its excellent acoustics and intimate atmosphere. It hosts a diverse range of performances including chamber music, recitals, and smaller orchestral works. The hall's design incorporates similar geometric principles as the larger halls within Harpa but on a more contained scale, contributing to its unique sonic qualities.
