Eldborg is architecturally significant as a central element of the Harpa building, designed by Henning Larsen Architects and Batteríið Architects. Completed in 2011, its design draws inspiration from basalt columns and the Northern Lights, utilizing a glass facade constructed from geometrically shaped panels.

Eldborg boasts exceptional acoustics specifically engineered for orchestral and vocal performances. The hall’s capacity is approximately 1,800 seats and features adjustable acoustic elements allowing customization for different types of events. It has quickly become a landmark cultural venue in Iceland, hosting a wide range of musical performances including classical concerts, opera, and contemporary music events. The hall’s name, Eldborg, translates to “Fire Castle” in Icelandic.
