Experience Barbara Hannigan live on September 10th
Barbara Hannigan is a Canadian soprano and conductor renowned for her interpretations of 20th and 21st-century vocal repertoire, particularly works by composers like Ligeti, Berg, and Unsuk Chin. Her performances are frequently noted for their dramatic intensity, technical precision, and a commitment to contemporary music alongside standard operatic roles. She increasingly appears as a conductor, leading ensembles in performances that reflect her interpretive depth.
Harpa Concert Hall, opened in 2011 in Reykjavik, Iceland, is a landmark building designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Batteríið Architects. Eldborg – the Main Hall – is its largest venue, seating 1,800 people. Its design was inspired by the basalt columns found in Icelandic landscapes and the Northern Lights; the glass façade is composed of geometric glass panels that create a dynamic interplay of light. Eldborg’s acoustics were carefully engineered by Artec Consultants Inc., aiming for both clarity and warmth suitable for a wide range of musical genres including orchestral performances, opera, and choral works. The hall features adjustable acoustics allowing for customization based on the performance needs. It quickly became a central cultural hub for Iceland and hosts international artists regularly.
