Barbara Hannigan is a Canadian soprano and conductor renowned for her intensely expressive performances and adventurous repertoire. Her musical style encompasses a broad range, from Baroque and Classical works to 20th and 21st-century compositions, often focusing on challenging and emotionally complex pieces by composers like Ligeti, Unsuk Chin, and Berg. Harpa Concert Hall, located in Reykjavik, Iceland, opened in 2011. Eldborg – Main Hall is its largest venue, designed by Henning Larsen Architects with acoustics overseen by Artec Consultants Inc. Its striking glass façade is inspired by the basalt columns found throughout Iceland’s landscape. The hall's design intentionally references natural light phenomena prominent in the Icelandic environment; the exterior’s geometry aims to capture and reflect these qualities.

Eldborg has a seating capacity of approximately 1,800 and is equipped with state-of-the-art sound and lighting technology. It regularly hosts a diverse range of performances including orchestral concerts, opera productions, ballet, and large-scale conferences.
