Vasily Petrenko is a Russian-born conductor internationally recognised for his deeply insightful interpretations of both standard repertoire and lesser-known works. His musical approach is often characterised by a meticulous attention to detail, a focus on orchestral colour, and a compelling narrative drive within performances. He frequently champions contemporary composers alongside established masters, displaying a broad stylistic range encompassing Romantic, 20th and 21st-century music. He currently holds the position of Music Director with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Hexagon in Reading is a multi-purpose arts venue opened in 1977. Originally conceived as a civic centre, it quickly became a significant regional performing arts hub. The building underwent a substantial £30 million refurbishment completed in late 2021, modernising its facilities while retaining its original architectural features. The main auditorium boasts a capacity of approximately 440 seats and hosts a diverse programme including classical music concerts, theatre productions, dance performances, comedy shows and conferences. It serves as an important cultural resource for the town of Reading and surrounding areas, attracting both national and international artists. The venue is owned and managed by Reading Borough Council.
