Elisabeth Leonskaja will perform a solo piano recital on July 30, 2026, at the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building in Oxford. Leonskaja is internationally recognised for her interpretations of composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms, often noted for their intellectual rigour, clarity of articulation, and deeply personal expression. Her playing is frequently described as possessing a unique blend of power and lyricism, avoiding superficial display in favour of revealing the structural and emotional core of the music. She is known for a substantial repertoire spanning several centuries.
The Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, opened in 2009, serves as the primary teaching and performance space for the University of Oxford’s Music Faculty. Named in honour of cellist Jacqueline du Pré – an alumna of St Hilda’s College, Oxford – the building was designed by Rick Mather Architects. Its design prioritises acoustic excellence and includes a 400-seat concert hall featuring a curved wooden structure intended to enhance sound projection and warmth. The building also houses practice rooms, teaching studios, a library and research facilities dedicated to musicology. It represents a significant investment in musical resources within the university and city.
