Leonidas Kavakos is recognized internationally as a violinist celebrated for his insightful interpretations and technical mastery. The concert will take place at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford. Completed in 1669 by Christopher Wren – his first major commission – the building was designed to serve as the University of Oxford’s Convocation House for academic ceremonies. Its architecture is influenced by classical Roman designs, notably featuring a cupola dominating the Oxford skyline. While primarily used for University events like Encaenia and Matriculation, the Sheldonian Theatre also hosts concerts due to its unique acoustics and historical significance. The theatre’s wooden interior contributes to a warm and resonant sound quality, making it an unusual but highly regarded venue for chamber music and solo instrumental performances. The space seats approximately 800 people.
