Experience Paul Lewis live on July 28th
Paul Lewis is a British pianist internationally recognized for his interpretations of the classical and romantic repertoire, particularly the works of Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms. His playing is often noted for its clarity, structural understanding, and emotional depth, eschewing overt virtuosity in favour of insightful phrasing and a refined touch. He frequently performs complete sonata cycles and has received numerous awards for his recordings.
The concert will take place at the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building in Oxford. Opened in 2009, the building serves as the home for the University of Oxford’s music department. It’s named in honour of Jacqueline du Pré (1945-1987), a celebrated cellist who studied at St Hilda’s College, Oxford. The building’s design incorporates a main performance hall with a capacity of approximately 400, specifically engineered for acoustic excellence.
The architectural firm responsible was Design Research Studio, led by Sadie Morgan and Jonathan McDowell; their design aimed to integrate modern facilities within the historic context of the university campus. The building also houses practice rooms, teaching spaces, a music library and administrative offices supporting both academic study and public performance within Oxford's musical community.
