Classical Concerts in Oxford

Experience María Dueñas live on November 5th

María Dueñas is a Spanish classical guitarist renowned for her interpretations of both established repertoire and lesser-known works, particularly those of Spanish composers. Her playing is characterized by a refined technique, expressive phrasing, and a commitment to showcasing the nuances of the guitar’s tonal palette. She frequently performs works by Isaac Albéniz, Francisco Tárrega, and Joaquín Rodrigo alongside contemporary compositions. Dueñas gained international recognition after winning several prestigious competitions, including the Andrés Segovia Competition in 2013.

The concert on November 5th, 2026 will take place within the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford. Completed in 1669 by Christopher Wren – also architect of St Paul’s Cathedral – the building serves as the official ceremonial hall of the University of Oxford. Designed to house University ceremonies and musical performances, its architecture is heavily influenced by classical Roman designs, featuring a prominent cupola and painted ceiling depicting allegorical figures representing the arts and sciences.

The theatre’s acoustics are noted for their resonance and clarity, making it a favoured venue for chamber music and vocal performances.
