Opened in 2009, it was named in honour of cellist Jacqueline du Pré, an alumna of St Hilda's College, Oxford. The building’s design incorporates a main concert hall renowned for its acoustics, specifically engineered to support chamber music and solo performances. It also houses practice rooms, teaching studios, a music library and research facilities. The architectural design aimed to create a modern facility while respecting the historic character of the surrounding university buildings. The hall's interior features exposed concrete and timber construction intended to enhance sound reflection and clarity.
