Experience Vienna Philharmonic live on September 8th
The Vienna Philharmonic will perform at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany on September 8, 2026. The orchestra is renowned for its distinctive sound, characterized by warmth, richness, and a historically informed performance practice rooted in the traditions of Viennese Classicism and German Romanticism. Established in 1842, the orchestra maintains a self-governance structure unique among leading ensembles, with members making artistic decisions collectively. Their repertoire spans from the works of Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary composers, though they are particularly celebrated for interpretations of Strauss family waltzes and operas by Wagner.
The Elbphilharmonie itself opened in January 2017 after a decade of construction and significant cost overruns. Built atop a historic warehouse (Kaispeicher A) in Hamburg’s HafenCity district, it quickly became a landmark architectural achievement. Designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, its glass facade and wave-like roof are visually striking.
