Classical Concerts in Gateshead

Experience Vasily Petrenko live on March 19th

Vasily Petrenko is recognised for his deeply insightful interpretations of both standard repertoire and lesser-known works, often characterised by meticulous attention to orchestral colour and a focus on revealing the emotional core of a composition. He frequently champions Russian composers, though his range extends broadly across periods and styles. His conducting is noted for its clarity and dynamic control.

The performance on March 19, 2027, will take place at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead. This venue represents the culmination of a project to replace and significantly expand the existing Sage Gateshead complex. Officially opening in January 2024, The Glasshouse incorporates two concert halls: the 1,300-seat Hall One – designed for orchestral and amplified performances – and the more intimate Hall Two, seating around 450.

The building’s design prioritises acoustics and accessibility, aiming to establish The Glasshouse as a national resource for music education and performance. It builds upon the legacy of Sage Gateshead, which since its opening in 2004 has been a significant cultural hub for the North East of England, hosting a diverse range of musical genres and artists.
