Stephen Bell will perform at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead on December 9, 2026. Bell is a composer and sound artist whose work frequently blends acoustic instrumentation with electronic processing and spatial audio techniques. His compositions often explore themes of landscape, memory, and the relationship between natural and artificial sound environments, drawing influences from contemporary classical music, ambient electronica, and field recording. He has received commissions from various ensembles and institutions internationally and is known for immersive sonic experiences.

The Glasshouse, opened in November 2023, represents a significant investment in music education and performance infrastructure for the North East of England. It consolidates the Sage Gateshead and The Place into a single complex. The building features two concert halls: the 1,300-seat Hall One designed for orchestral performances and large-scale popular music events, and Hall Two, a more intimate 450-seat space suited to chamber music, recitals and jazz. Designed by David Adjaye Associates, the centre aims to be a national resource for musical creativity and learning alongside its role as a performance venue. It provides facilities for both professional musicians and educational programs delivered in partnership with local schools and universities.
