Experience Richard Goode live on July 31st
Richard Goode will perform a solo piano recital at the Holywell Music Room in Oxford on July 31, 2026. Goode is internationally recognized for his interpretations of composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, Bach, and Brahms. His playing is characterized by clarity, a refined touch, and a deeply considered approach to structure and phrasing; often described as possessing both intellectual rigor and emotional depth. He avoids overt display, prioritizing instead the composer’s intentions and the inherent musicality of the work.
The Holywell Music Room is considered the oldest chamber music hall in Europe, dating back to 1748. Originally designed as a library for the Holywell Manor House, it was quickly repurposed for musical performances due to its excellent acoustics. Throughout its history, it has hosted performances by notable musicians including Haydn and Mendelssohn. The room’s intimate size – seating approximately 50 people – contributes significantly to its unique atmosphere and remains largely unchanged from its original state. It is now part of the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Music and continues to serve as a venue for recitals, lectures, and seminars. The space maintains a distinctly historical character with its wood panelling and period furnishings.
