Classical Concerts in Hamburg

Experience Quatuor Ébène live on October 9th

Quatuor Ébène, a French string quartet founded in 1999, will perform at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg on October 9, 2026. The quartet is known for its interpretations of classical repertoire, particularly those of Beethoven, Schubert and Debussy, but also actively commissions and performs contemporary works. Their style is frequently described as possessing both technical precision and a warm, expressive sound, often noted for rhythmic vitality and a clear articulation of individual instrumental lines. They have gained international recognition for their innovative concert formats and commitment to broadening the audience for chamber music.

The Elbphilharmonie itself opened in January 2017 after a decade of construction and significant cost overruns. Built atop an existing warehouse – the Kaispeicher A – it has become a landmark architectural achievement and a major cultural venue in Hamburg. Its design, by Herzog & de Meuron, features a glass façade constructed from over 1,000 curved glass panels. The concert hall within is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, achieved through the “White Skin” interior designed by Yasuhisa Toyota. The building aims to be publicly accessible with a plaza offering panoramic views of the city and harbor.
