The Prague Symphony Orchestra will perform at Smetana Hall within the Municipal House in Prague on October 27, 2026. The orchestra, founded in 1908, maintains a repertoire spanning from the classical and romantic periods through to contemporary compositions. Known for its robust string section and expressive interpretations, the orchestra frequently performs works by Czech composers alongside international masters, exhibiting a commitment to both tradition and innovation.
The Municipal House (Obecní dům) is a significant example of Art Nouveau architecture, completed in 1912 after a long campaign to provide Prague with a representative venue comparable to those found in other European capitals. Smetana Hall, its principal concert hall, is named after the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. The hall’s design incorporates elements inspired by Czech national motifs and features a golden horseshoe-shaped balcony and elaborate sculptural decorations. Its acoustics are highly regarded, making it a preferred venue for orchestral performances and other large-scale events. Throughout its history, Smetana Hall has hosted numerous prominent musicians and continues to be central to Prague’s cultural life. The hall's capacity is approximately 1,400 seats.
