John Wilson is a British conductor and orchestrator renowned for his dedication to the authentic performance of mid-20th century film and musical theatre scores. His work focuses on meticulously researched reconstructions of original orchestrations, often reviving works that have been altered or forgotten over time. He frequently collaborates with major orchestras and specialises in the music of composers like Bernard Herrmann, Miklós Rózsa, and Richard Rodgers. The performance will take place at The Glasshouse International Centre For Music in Gateshead, which opened in November 2023. This venue represents a significant investment in the cultural infrastructure of the North East of England, consolidating Sage Gateshead and The Baltic Centre into a single complex. Designed by David Chipperfield Architects, The Glasshouse features two concert halls: the 1,950-seat Hall One – where Wilson will perform – and the more intimate Hall Two. It aims to be a national resource for musical performance, education and collaboration, hosting a diverse programme encompassing classical music, contemporary genres and community engagement activities. The building incorporates sustainable design principles and prioritises accessibility for all audiences.
