Classical Concerts in Gateshead

Experience John Wilson live on October 30th

John Wilson is a British conductor and orchestrator renowned for his dedication to the authentic performance and rediscovery of classic film scores and musical theatre orchestrations. His work focuses on meticulous research, often reconstructing original orchestral parts and striving for the sound envisioned by the composers themselves. He frequently collaborates with leading orchestras and specialises in the Golden Age of Hollywood music, alongside works from Broadway’s mid-20th century.

The concert will take place at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead, scheduled to open in late 2023. It represents a significant investment in the cultural infrastructure of the North East of England, consolidating the existing Sage Gateshead and The Northern Stage into a single, purpose-built venue. The Glasshouse aims to be a national resource for music education and performance, offering two concert halls – a 1,300 seat hall and a 1,200 seat hall – alongside smaller spaces for learning and participation. The design prioritises acoustics and accessibility, intending to attract both internationally acclaimed artists and foster local talent. The building incorporates sustainable practices throughout its construction and operation.
