The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a Portuguese philanthropic organization founded in 1951 with the bequest of Calouste Gulbenkian, an Armenian-British businessman and art collector. It operates across multiple areas including arts, science, social welfare, and education. Central to the Foundation’s activities is its modern art museum – the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian – housing a significant collection encompassing Egyptian artifacts to works by Rembrandt and Renoir. The Foundation also maintains extensive gardens and hosts a diverse program of concerts, exhibitions, and performances within its complex designed by architects Pedro Teves and António Viana Barreto.
