Experience Joachim Kühn
Joachim Kühn is a highly influential German jazz pianist and composer, born in 1944. Emerging in the vibrant free jazz scene of the 1960s, Kühn quickly established himself as a distinctive voice, initially alongside players like Manfred Schoof and Conrad Rupp. His early work, including albums like *Joachim Kühn Quartet* (1968), demonstrated a powerful, often atonal approach influenced by Cecil Taylor.
Throughout the 1970s, Kühn spent significant time in New York, collaborating extensively with artists like Roswell Rudd, Lee Konitz, and Sheila Jordan. This period saw a broadening of his style, incorporating elements of modal jazz and free improvisation while maintaining his intensely personal expression. He later developed a fascination with world music traditions, particularly those of India and North Africa, integrating these influences into albums such as *Fasching* (1982) and subsequent projects.
Kühn’s prolific discography includes over 50 albums as a leader or co-leader. He’s received numerous awards for his contributions to jazz, including the German Jazz Prize.
