The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead is a recently developed venue, opening in November 2023. It represents a significant investment in the cultural infrastructure of the North East of England, consolidating performance spaces previously housed within Gateshead’s The Sage and The Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. The complex comprises two concert halls: the 1,950-capacity Sage Arena and the more intimate 450-capacity Michael Hogan Auditorium – the latter being where Ellie Slorach is scheduled to perform.

The building itself incorporates sustainable design principles and aims to be a nationally recognised centre for musical performance and learning. Prior to its opening as The Glasshouse, the site was historically known as The Sage Gateshead, a landmark venue established in 2004 with a focus on diverse musical genres including classical, contemporary, and world music. The rebranding to The Glasshouse reflects an expanded remit encompassing wider cultural activities alongside musical events.
