The Waldstein Garden (Valdštejnská zahrada) is a significant example of early Baroque garden design in Prague. Created between 1620 and 1630 by Albrecht von Wallenstein, a powerful military leader during the Thirty Years’ War, it was originally part of his palace complex. The garden’s layout reflects Renaissance influences adapted to the Baroque style, featuring symmetrical paths, sculpted hedges, fountains – including the iconic grotto with its artificial stalactites – and statues by prominent sculptors of the period. Following Wallenstein's downfall, the garden changed ownership several times before becoming state property. Today it is publicly accessible and maintained as a historical site representing an important period in Czech history and horticultural design.
