Xian Zhang will be appearing in concert at Benaroya Hall’s Taper Auditorium in Seattle, Washington on April 8, 2027. Zhang is a highly regarded conductor known for her dynamic interpretations of both standard orchestral repertoire and lesser-known works. Her conducting style is often described as possessing both technical precision and emotional depth, frequently highlighting dramatic contrasts and nuanced phrasing. She has a particular affinity for Italian opera and Romantic-era symphonies, but demonstrates versatility across various periods and composers.

The Taper Auditorium is the primary performance space within Benaroya Hall, which opened in 1998. It’s named in recognition of a substantial donation from the Marion and Ed Taper Foundation. The auditorium is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, designed by acoustician Russell Johnson to achieve clarity and warmth. Its design incorporates adjustable elements allowing optimization for different ensemble sizes – from chamber orchestras to full symphony orchestras – and musical styles. The hall replaced the aging Seattle Opera House and serves as the home venue for the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, as well as hosting a variety of other performances including ballet, Broadway shows, and contemporary music events. The auditorium seats approximately 2,700 patrons.
