Classical Concerts in Seattle

Experience Víkingur Ólafsson live on February 23rd

Víkingur Ólafsson is a contemporary Icelandic pianist recognized for his distinctive interpretations of classical and modern repertoire, often characterized by clarity, precision, and a subtly innovative approach to phrasing and dynamics. His performances frequently blend established works with pieces by contemporary composers like Philip Glass and Max Richter, alongside his own arrangements. He’s known for albums exploring specific composers in depth, such as Bach and Debussy, gaining critical acclaim for their conceptual frameworks and emotional resonance.

Benaroya Hall, the performance venue for the concert, opened in 1998 and serves as the home of the Seattle Symphony. Designed by LMN Architects and acoustician Russell Johnson, the hall was built to address the need for a dedicated performance space offering superior acoustics compared to previous venues utilized by the Symphony, such as the Seattle Opera House. Its design incorporates a shoebox-shaped auditorium intended to maximize sound reflection and clarity. The hall also features adjustable acoustic elements allowing it to be tailored for various types of performances beyond orchestral music, including chamber music and solo recitals. Benaroya Hall is located in downtown Seattle and has become a significant cultural landmark within the city.
