Xavier de Maistre, a French harpist renowned for his virtuosity and innovative approach to the instrument, will perform at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg on August 24, 2026. De Maistre’s musical style blends classical repertoire with jazz, contemporary compositions, and arrangements of popular music, often incorporating improvisation and extended techniques. He frequently collaborates with artists from diverse musical backgrounds, pushing the boundaries of the harp's traditional role. His performances are characterized by a dynamic stage presence and a commitment to showcasing the harp’s versatility.

The Elbphilharmonie itself opened in January 2017 after a decade of construction and significant cost overruns. Built atop an existing warehouse structure (the Kaispeicher A), it quickly became a landmark of Hamburg and a globally recognized concert hall. Designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, its distinctive glass façade reflects light and provides panoramic views of the city and harbor. The hall’s acoustics were designed by Yasuhisa Toyota, aiming for a “white canvas” sound allowing for nuanced interpretations across various musical genres.
