Experience Víkingur Ólafsson live on June 29th
Víkingur Ólafsson is a highly acclaimed Icelandic pianist known for his thoughtful and often unconventional interpretations of classical repertoire, alongside explorations of contemporary composers like Philip Glass and Max Richter. His performances are characterized by a refined touch, clarity of articulation, and a willingness to delve into the emotional core of the music, frequently presenting programs that juxtapose familiar works with lesser-known pieces. He has released several critically lauded recordings, often centered around specific composers or thematic concepts.
The concert will take place at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany on June 29th, 2026. This landmark building opened in January 2017 after a decade of construction and significant cost overruns. Situated on the Elbe River harbor, it’s built atop an older warehouse structure (the Kaispeicher A) and features a distinctive glass façade designed to resemble waves or a ship’s sails.
The Elbphilharmonie’s centerpiece is its Grand Hall, renowned for its exceptional acoustics achieved through the innovative “White Skin” design – a sculpted plaster interior surface. The hall accommodates approximately 2,100 guests and hosts a wide range of orchestral and chamber music performances.
