Umberto Clerici, an Italian pianist recognized for his interpretations of Romantic and early 20th-century repertoire, will perform at the Sydney Opera House on September 18, 2026. Clerici’s playing is often described as possessing a lyrical quality combined with virtuosic technique, frequently focusing on composers such as Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and Liszt. He gained international attention after winning the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition in 2012.

The concert will take place within the Sydney Opera House’s Concert Hall, the largest performance venue within the complex. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, the Sydney Opera House opened in 1973 after a construction period of fourteen years marked by significant engineering and political challenges. Its distinctive sail-like shells are constructed from precast concrete ribs covered with over one million Swedish ceramic tiles. The building is a UNESCO World Heritage site, acknowledged for its outstanding universal value as a masterpiece of 20th-century architecture and a significant cultural icon of Australia. The Concert Hall itself is renowned for its acoustics and hosts a diverse range of orchestral, choral, and solo performances annually.
