Experience Stéphane Denève live on September 4th
On September 4th, 2026, Stéphane Denève will conduct a performance at the Sydney Opera House. Denève is a French conductor known for his interpretations of French repertoire, particularly composers like Debussy, Ravel and Messiaen, alongside a broad range encompassing classical and contemporary works. His conducting style is often described as refined and insightful, emphasizing clarity of texture and emotional depth. He currently holds the position of Music Director of the Brussels Philharmonic and Chief Conductor of the Osaka Symphony Orchestra.
The Sydney Opera House, a UNESCO World Heritage site, officially opened in 1973 after over a decade of construction. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, its distinctive shell-shaped roofs are globally recognized. The building wasn’t conceived as solely an opera house; it incorporates multiple venues including the Concert Hall – where Denève will perform – the Joan Sutherland Theatre (primarily for opera and ballet), a drama theatre, a playhouse, studio spaces and a cinema.
Its construction was marked by significant engineering challenges and political controversy regarding cost overruns and Utzon’s eventual resignation from the project before completion.
