The Talich Quartet will perform at St. Johannis Harvestehude in Hamburg, Germany on September 18, 2026. The quartet is renowned for its interpretations of both standard repertoire and lesser-known works, characterized by a distinctive sound often described as possessing a blend of intellectual rigour and emotional depth. Formed in 1998, the ensemble has gained international recognition for its precise ensemble playing, refined tonal palette and insightful phrasing, particularly within the Central European classical tradition – focusing heavily on composers like Beethoven, Dvořák, and Janáček.
St. Johannis Harvestehude is a prominent Protestant church in Hamburg’s Harvestehude district. Originally constructed between 1904 and 1906 in the Neo-Gothic style by architect Albert Reimann, it replaced an earlier church building on the same site. The church is noted for its impressive acoustics and serves as a venue for regular concerts alongside its religious functions. Its interior features stained glass windows and a significant organ built by Furtwängler & Hammer, contributing to its suitability as a performance space for chamber music ensembles like the Talich Quartet.
