Sumi Hwang is a South Korean-born, Portugal-based vocalist and composer whose work blends elements of traditional Korean *pansori* storytelling with contemporary jazz and experimental music. Her compositions often feature her distinctive vocal techniques, incorporating extended vocal ranges and improvisation, alongside instrumentation that can include traditional Korean instruments and electronic soundscapes. Hwang’s music explores themes of cultural identity, memory, and the human voice itself.

The concert will take place at Castelo de Marvão: Pátio, located within the historic castle of Marvão, Portugal. The castle itself dates primarily to the 13th-14th centuries, built on the site of earlier Roman and Visigothic fortifications. Strategically positioned atop a granite peak in the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, it served as a crucial defensive structure during Portugal’s formation.

The *Pátio* – or courtyard – within the castle offers an open-air performance space characterized by its stone paving and surrounding medieval architecture. It’s regularly used for cultural events during warmer months, providing a unique atmospheric setting due to its historical significance and panoramic views of the Alentejo landscape.
