Sir Donald Runnicles will conduct a concert at the Sydney Opera House on October 14, 2026. Runnicles is internationally recognised for his interpretations of opera and symphonic repertoire, particularly noted for his deeply insightful readings of Wagner, Strauss, and Scottish composers like Sir Alexander Mackenzie. His conducting style is often described as dramatic and emotionally resonant, prioritizing clarity of orchestral texture and vocal phrasing. He currently serves as Principal Conductor of the Grand Teton Music Festival and has held positions with major opera houses globally including San Francisco Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin.

The Sydney Opera House, opened in 1973 after 14 years of construction, is a multi-venue performing arts centre and one of Australia’s most recognisable landmarks. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, its distinctive sail-like shells cover a complex structure built on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour. The building encompasses multiple performance spaces including the Concert Hall – where Runnicles will perform – the Joan Sutherland Theatre, the Drama Theatre, the Playhouse, and the Studio.
