Simone Young will conduct a concert at the Sydney Opera House on July 22, 2026. Young is an Australian conductor internationally recognized for her interpretations of opera and symphonic repertoire, particularly works by composers such as Wagner, Strauss, and Mahler. Her conducting style is often described as possessing both dramatic intensity and meticulous attention to orchestral detail. She has held positions as Music Director of several major opera houses including the Hamburg State Opera and the Sydney Opera House itself (as its first female Artistic Director, 2003-2006).
The Sydney Opera House, a UNESCO World Heritage site, officially opened in 1973 after a construction period of over fourteen years. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, its distinctive shell-shaped sails have become a global architectural icon. The Concert Hall, where Young will perform, is the largest performance venue within the complex and is renowned for its acoustics. It houses a grand organ built by pipe organ builder Casavant Frères, one of the largest mechanical tracker action organs in the world.
