Seong-Jin Cho is a South Korean classical pianist recognized for his poetic interpretations and technical precision. His playing is often described as possessing a refined sensitivity, characterized by nuanced phrasing and a clear, balanced tone. He gained international acclaim after winning the First Prize at the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, and frequently performs works by Chopin alongside a broad repertoire spanning composers like Beethoven, Debussy, and Rachmaninoff.
The Music Center at Strathmore, located in North Bethesda, Maryland, opened in February 2003. It was conceived as a cultural hub for Montgomery County, Maryland and the broader Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The venue comprises two distinct halls: the Concert Hall, designed to resemble a traditional European concert hall with exceptional acoustics, and the smaller Atlas Performing Arts Center which hosts more intimate performances. Strathmore hosts a diverse range of programming including classical music concerts, orchestral performances, jazz, world music and contemporary dance. It is also home to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s second home. The building itself incorporates architectural elements inspired by the nearby historic homes of Glen Echo Park and features extensive gardens and public spaces.
