The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), established in 1946, is a London-based orchestra renowned for its versatility across the classical repertoire. While historically rooted in standard orchestral works from composers like Beethoven, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky, the RPO also frequently performs film scores, contemporary compositions, and lighter classical pieces, maintaining a broad appeal. The orchestra is known for its extensive recording history and frequent international touring schedule.

The concert on January 25, 2027, will be held at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany. Opened in 2017 after a decade of construction and significant cost overruns, the Elbphilharmonie is a landmark concert hall built atop an existing warehouse structure (Kaispeicher A) in the HafenCity district. Its design, by Herzog & de Meuron architects, features a striking glass façade and an innovative acoustic concept developed by Yasuhisa Toyota.

The Grand Hall within the Elbphilharmonie is specifically designed for orchestral music and renowned for its “White Skin” interior – plaster surfaces intended to diffuse sound evenly.
