Classical Concerts in The Hague
Experience Niek Baar live on January 16th
Niek Baar is a Dutch composer and pianist known for his neoclassical and minimalist compositions, often incorporating elements of ambient and electronic music. His work frequently features repetitive melodic patterns, spacious arrangements, and a focus on atmosphere and emotional resonance. He frequently performs solo piano works, but also collaborates with other musicians and incorporates visual elements into his performances.
The concert on January 16th, 2027 will be held at Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in The Hague. Originally constructed between 1649 and 1654, the Nieuwe Kerk was built as a church for the growing Protestant population of The Hague, specifically as a place of worship for those dissatisfied with the existing Oude Kerk (Old Church). Designed by Jacob van Campen, it exhibits a distinct Dutch Classicist architectural style.
Throughout its history, Nieuwe Kerk has served multiple functions beyond religious services. It has been the site of state openings of Parliament – an annual event where the Dutch monarch addresses a joint session – since 1904. It also regularly hosts exhibitions, concerts, and other cultural events. The interior features notable historical elements including royal pews and memorials dedicated to members of the Dutch Royal Family.
