Maxim Emelyanychev, a Russian countertenor renowned for his interpretations of Baroque and classical repertoire, will perform at Usher Hall in Edinburgh on May 13, 2027. Emelyanychev’s style is characterized by a remarkably pure vocal tone, agility, and a focus on historically informed performance practice. He frequently collaborates with leading period instrument ensembles and is known for both operatic roles and concert performances of works by composers such as Handel, Vivaldi, and Mozart. He also leads his own baroque orchestra, *Il pomo d’oro*.
Usher Hall opened in 1897 and is a significant landmark in Edinburgh’s cultural landscape. Designed by Robert Rowand Anderson, the hall was a gift to the city from Andrew Usher, a prominent Edinburgh brewer. It is celebrated for its exceptional acoustics and ornate Victorian architecture, featuring a grand organ built by Henry Willis & Sons. Throughout its history, Usher Hall has hosted a diverse range of performances including classical music concerts, choral works, orchestral performances and popular music events. It underwent a major refurbishment completed in 2009 which enhanced its facilities while preserving its original character.
