Vilde Frang is a Norwegian violinist internationally recognised for her compelling interpretations and refined technique. Her repertoire spans a broad range, from the core classical and romantic works to 20th and 21st-century compositions, often characterised by a lyrical quality and insightful phrasing. She frequently performs with leading orchestras and conductors globally, and is known for her dedication to chamber music as well.
The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh opened in 1979, constructed within the shell of a former Free Church building on Giles’ Close. The building itself represents a significant architectural undertaking, preserving the historic façade while creating a modern concert venue inside. Originally intended to address a lack of suitable performance spaces in Edinburgh, it quickly became a central hub for musical events across genres – classical music being a prominent focus.
The hall is renowned for its excellent acoustics, achieved through careful design considerations during its construction. It hosts a diverse programme including orchestral concerts, chamber music performances, traditional Scottish music, jazz, and spoken word events. The Queen's Hall has become an integral part of Edinburgh’s cultural landscape and regularly features as part of the Edinburgh International Festival programme.
