Maxim Emelyanychev, a Russian-born harpsichordist and conductor, will perform at Usher Hall in Edinburgh on March 13, 2027. Emelyanychev is known for his dynamic and historically informed performances of Baroque and Classical music, frequently leading ensembles from the keyboard. His interpretations often emphasize rhythmic vitality and a dramatic approach to ornamentation, challenging conventional performance practices within these periods. He’s particularly recognised for his work with Il Pomo d'Oro, an orchestra he founded which specialises in opera and orchestral repertoire.
Usher Hall opened in 1897, designed by Robert Rowand Anderson, and is a prominent concert venue in Edinburgh. Built using Scottish granite, its architecture reflects a late Victorian aesthetic. The hall was a gift to the city from Andrew Usher, a local brewer and philanthropist. Throughout its history, Usher Hall has hosted a diverse range of performances including classical music concerts, choral works, orchestral performances, and popular music events. It underwent significant refurbishment and modernisation between 2009 and 2011 to improve acoustics and facilities while preserving its original character. The hall is recognised for its excellent acoustics and remains a central hub for musical life in Scotland.
