He is particularly noted for his work with Il Pomo d’Oro, an orchestra specializing in historically informed performance.
Usher Hall, opened in 1914, is Edinburgh’s principal concert hall and a significant landmark within the city. Designed by Robert Rowand Anderson and completed by his son James Anderson Rowand, it was gifted to the city by Andrew Usher, a prominent Edinburgh brewer. The hall is celebrated for its exceptional acoustics and its ornate Edwardian interior featuring a grand organ built by Henry Willis & Sons.
Throughout its history, Usher Hall has hosted a diverse range of performances encompassing orchestral concerts, choral works, chamber music, and contemporary music events. It has been a venue for the Edinburgh International Festival since its inception in 1947 and continues to play a central role in the city’s cultural life.
