Kian Soltani, a celebrated Iranian-German cellist, will perform at the Philharmonie Berlin on January 15, 2027. Soltani is recognized for his deeply expressive interpretations and technical mastery, often performing both standard classical repertoire and works by contemporary composers. His playing is frequently described as possessing a rich tone and a compelling emotional range, drawing comparisons to artists like Rostropovich and Casals. He frequently collaborates with leading orchestras and conductors internationally.

The Philharmonie Berlin, inaugurated in 1963, is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and architectural significance. Designed by Hans Scharoun, the building deliberately avoids traditional shoebox concert hall shapes, instead featuring a vineyard-style arrangement where the stage is nestled amongst the audience. This design contributes to its lauded sound quality, providing intimacy and clarity.

Originally built to serve as the home of the Berliner Philharmoniker orchestra, it has since become a prominent venue for a wide range of musical performances including classical, contemporary and chamber music. The hall underwent extensive renovations completed in 2013 which aimed to further enhance its acoustic properties while preserving Scharoun’s original vision.
