Kateřina Kněžíková is a Czech composer and performer whose work blends contemporary classical music with elements of folk and experimental soundscapes. Often incorporating extended vocal techniques and utilising both traditional and unconventional instrumentation, her compositions explore themes of memory, landscape, and the human voice. She frequently collaborates with artists from diverse disciplines, including visual artists and dancers.
The concert will take place at St Agnes’ Convent (Český Krumlov), Prague. Originally founded in the 13th century by Princess Saint Agnes of Bohemia, the convent served as a significant religious and cultural center for centuries. It housed a community of Poor Clare nuns dedicated to a life of prayer and contemplation. Following the communist era in Czechoslovakia, the convent underwent extensive restoration beginning in the 1990s.
Today, St Agnes’ Convent functions as a museum administered by the National Gallery in Prague, showcasing medieval art and providing insight into the history of the convent itself. Its architecture reflects various periods, notably Gothic, with notable features including vaulted ceilings and cloistered walkways. The space is increasingly used for cultural events due to its unique acoustics and historical significance.
