Jiyoon Lee, a South Korean composer and pianist, will perform at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg on September 20, 2026. Lee’s musical style is often described as neo-classical, blending contemporary classical techniques with elements of minimalism, ambient music, and influences from film scoring. Her compositions frequently feature delicate piano textures, atmospheric soundscapes, and a focus on emotional resonance. She gained recognition for her self-released albums and increasingly prominent film and television work, including scores for independent films and series.

The Elbphilharmonie itself opened in January 2017 after a decade of construction and significant cost overruns. Built atop an existing warehouse (the Kaispeicher A) in the HafenCity district, it has quickly become a landmark of Hamburg and a renowned concert hall internationally. Its distinctive glass facade is comprised of 1,000 individually curved glass panels.

The hall’s acoustics were designed by Yasuhisa Toyota, aiming for a “white box” approach allowing natural reverberation to shape the sound rather than imposing a specific character.
