Experience Jean Rondeau live on December 16th
Jean Rondeau, a French harpsichordist and organist, will perform at Smetana Hall within the Municipal House in Prague on December 16, 2026. Rondeau is recognized for his dynamic and often unconventional approach to Baroque and contemporary music. He frequently expands the repertoire for the harpsichord, incorporating improvisational elements and exploring collaborations with musicians from diverse genres, including jazz and electronic music. His performances are noted for their rhythmic vitality and expressive depth, challenging traditional perceptions of early keyboard instruments.
The Municipal House (Obecní dům) is a significant Art Nouveau building completed in 1912, intended as a representative cultural centre for Prague. Smetana Hall, its principal concert venue, is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and opulent design. The hall is named after the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, whose statue stands prominently before the building. It was designed by Antonín Balšánek and boasts a golden horseshoe-shaped interior inspired by Vienna's Musikvereinssaal.
