Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, one of Italy’s oldest and most distinguished orchestras, will perform at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg on October 7, 2026. The orchestra has a long tradition of interpreting both standard repertoire and lesser-known works, with a particular strength in Italian opera and 19th and 20th-century music. Founded in 1920, it evolved from earlier musical societies dating back to the 18th century and is closely associated with the Teatro Comunale di Bologna opera house.

The Elbphilharmonie itself opened in January 2017, constructed atop a historic warehouse building (Kaispeicher A) in Hamburg’s HafenCity district. Designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, its distinctive glass structure and undulating roof have made it a landmark building. The concert hall within is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, achieved through the innovative “White Skin” design by Yasuhisa Toyota – a gypsum fiber acoustic cladding. It seats approximately 2,100 people and hosts a diverse range of classical music performances.
